Electrify Everything Workshop

5th March  6.30 - 8:00pm
Concord Oval

Come to Concord Oval for a free workshop about how to electrify your home, hosted by Canada Bay Zero Carbon Community.

In this workshop you'll hear from expert local and national speakers who will cover what you need to know about electrifying your home and minimising your carbon footprint. There will also be a panel discussion where you can ask questions about topics such as solar power, batteries, insulation, heat pumps, induction cooking, EVs and phasing out gas.

Event Summary:

On March 5th we held an Electrify Everything event resented in partnership with Canada Bay Council. The aim was to learn how each household could use their Solar to save money on power bills, how to have a healthier home environment, and the best way to work towards zero carbon emissions.

We were delighted that 30 residents attended as well as several members of Climate Action Burwood Canada Bay (CABCB).

Three excellent speakers presented a wide view of the concept Electrify Everything.

Kristen McDonald of Rewiring Australia gave an overview for communities such as in 2515, where already their achievements of the Big Switch to all electricity have shown clear results.

Dr Stephen Du from the Australian Electric Vehicle association (AEVA) gave an animated and informative talk about the value of owning an electric vehicle (EV).

Marianne Foley, from our community who already has Solar on her roof, shared her realistic experience, of adding a battery, heat pump hot water, induction cooking, aircon, and the not-so-easy experience of removing her then - unwanted gas meter.

A panel of three further speakers held a Q&A session on their area of expertise.

Dr Emma Skowronski from Doctors for the Environment gave very pertinent information for improving family health by implementing electric induction cooking, especially if there are asthma sufferers.

Gavin Gilchrist of Inner West Community Energy (IWCE) emphasised the importance of the starting point to be Solar on your roof. He can manage this process by checking your quote and the installation by approved installers.

Joe Bacolo from Ecovantage gave expert advice about hot water heat pumps, and the rebates and subsidies from the NSW and Federal governments currently available.

With all this information to work from, those who attended felt empowered to embark on planning their own journey towards full Electrification of their homes, perhaps include an EV, anticipating to enjoy the economic, health and environmental benefits.
